Ghost

It was night, I was sleeping sound,
when there came a bang that shook the ground,
I woke up and glanced all around,
to find that my house was burning down.
I had to get my family out,
they were my world, without a doubt.
Choking, coughing, crawling along the floor,
I felt the heat as I got near the door.
Then it burst open, and there he stood,
amidst the fire and burning wood,
the man that has been haunting my dreams,
he designed the flaming world of screams.
I turned to run, but I was too slow,
easily overcome by this foe.
Coming to and hurting from the blow,
all around was a blurry red glow.
The man rambled over, smiling with glee,
He cried, "You will suffer for eternity!"
But then, someone else appeared from nowhere,
and exclaimed, "Let us battle fair and square!"
He pulled out a sword, as did the other man,
I watched in amazement as the fight began.
The two men looked exactly the same,
they looked like equals amongst the flames.
I couldn't believe how they moved so blindingly fast,
It seemed like neither of them could ever be surpassed.
Finally, one of them met their demise,
I winced at the dying man's piercing cries.
Then the surviving fighter dived at me,
it was impossible for me to flee.
The evil sword plunged right through my heart,
but it's magic would not let my soul depart.
I would forever haunt my destroyed home,
as a ghost, I would forever be alone.
I watched despairingly in my transparent shell,
as the evil man said his sarcastic farewell.
I had to watch as my house finished burning,
stung with a painfully compelling yearning,
a longing to end their piercing screams,
to somehow end this horrible dream.

How I wished that all was not as it seemed...
